The HealthScapes Podcast explores the relationship between people, places, and health.
Through conversations with researchers, designers, healthcare professionals, and emerging voices, we look at how the environments we create influence health, wellbeing, care, and everyday experiences. Our episodes cover a wide range of topics, including hospitals, outpatient and community healthcare settings, care homes, housing, neighbourhoods, and other places where health is shaped. Whether discussing architecture, service design, healthcare innovation, or lived experience, we are interested in one central question: how can design help create healthier and more inclusive environments?
Most episodes feature a guest, ranging from experienced practitioners and researchers to recent graduates bringing fresh perspectives to the field. Others we will discuss a conference or a specific topic together. Episodes are typically 20-30 minutes long, making them easy to listen to during your commute, while working, or whenever you have a moment to learn something new.
The podcast is for anyone involved in shaping health and care environments, including designers, architects, healthcare leaders, policymakers, researchers, students, and practitioners.
Listen on Spotify, with additional platforms including YouTube and Apple Podcasts becoming available.
Why we started the podcast
Research and practice generate a wealth of valuable knowledge, but not everyone has the time to read academic papers or attend conferences. We created the HealthScapes Podcast as an accessible and engaging way to share ideas, research findings, experiences, and lessons from practice. The podcast also provides a space where research and practice can meet. It allows us to explore topics in greater depth, hear the stories behind projects and studies, and have the kinds of conversations with the people behind the work that often do not fit into a journal article or project report.
For us as hosts, it is also a way to learn. We are still developing the podcast and discovering what works best for our listeners. Our goal is simple: to help connect knowledge with the people making decisions about the design of health and care environments, while creating conversations that inform, inspire, and encourage reflection.
